State Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital (SHMCH), Godda, is the only government homoeopathic medical college in Jharkhand and one of the leading institutions for homoeopathic education in eastern India. The college was established by the Government of Jharkhand in 2002 with the objective of promoting quality education, research, and healthcare in the field of homoeopathy. The foundation stone of the college was laid on 23 September 2002, and the institution was formally inaugurated on 28 February 2004.
Located at Paraspani, Pathargama, around 20 km from Godda town, the college is spread across approximately 18 acres of land, providing a peaceful environment for academic learning and clinical training. It is affiliated with Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh, and is recognized by the National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH) and the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. The college offers the Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) program with an approved intake of 50 seats.
The campus features well-equipped laboratories, spacious lecture halls, a central library with thousands of books and journals, computer facilities, and hostel accommodation. The attached Government Homoeopathic Hospital provides OPD and IPD services, enabling students to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience while serving the healthcare needs of the local community.
The college follows the latest BHMS curriculum prescribed by the National Commission for Homoeopathy. Experienced faculty members focus on classroom teaching, practical demonstrations, clinical case discussions, seminars, workshops, and community health camps to ensure students develop strong medical knowledge and professional skills.
After completing the academic curriculum, students undergo a one-year compulsory rotatory internship, where they receive practical training across different clinical departments. This internship prepares graduates for careers in government hospitals, private practice, research institutions, academics, and higher education.
With affordable government fees, experienced faculty, quality infrastructure, and excellent clinical exposure, State Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Godda continues to be one of the best choices for students seeking BHMS admission in Jharkhand.

Set up specifically to meet Jharkhand's need for a dedicated government homoeopathic institution, this college's history traces back to a formal 2002 government notification and a foundation-stone ceremony led by the state's first Chief Minister a strong signal of the political and administrative priority placed on establishing homoeopathic education infrastructure in the newly formed state (Jharkhand itself was created in November 2000). The roughly seven year gap between the college's founding notification and the start of BHMS teaching in 2009-10 reflects the substantial groundwork involved in developing an 18-acre campus with academic blocks, hostel facilities, and a functioning teaching hospital from the ground up.
The college's academic and clinical structure spans the standard departments prescribed for homoeopathic education, including:
Admission to the BHMS course is based on NEET-UG scores.
Admission Steps
After completing the 4.5-year academic phase, BHMS students at State Homoeopathic Medical College, Godda, undergo the compulsory one-year rotatory internship mandated by the National Commission for Homoeopathy. Interns rotate through the college's clinical departments Practice of Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, and others gaining supervised, hands-on clinical experience in patient case-taking, diagnosis, and homoeopathic treatment. Since the college's 25-bed hospital admits patients specifically for both treatment and clinical training, interns get structured exposure across each of the hospital's core specialty wards during their internship year.
